One of the core aims of the Jean Monnet Chair is to foster research and teaching on Europe and European integration at the University of Murcia. To this end, the creation of the Centre for European Studies is promoted; activities of different university departments interested in European issues and topics will be organised from the centre. Thus, from the Jean Monnet Chair a process of joining of different interests will be set in motion, to be represented at university level by this interdisciplinary centre.
With this in view, a dossier is being prepared to act as an application document for the setting up of this centre, and is to be presented before the Board of the Philosophy Faculty and the University Governing Board. Both institutions, as well as some others, have already expressed their support in some preliminary polls, which makes us envisage the project with a very positive attitude.
Along these lines, the centre will strive to conjoin different research projects on European issues within the University of Murcia, thus offering an interdisciplinary institutional framework with which to get through subject and faculty boundaries. In order to achieve this, the activities of the Centre for European Studies will conform to four lines of action: teaching, research, transfer of research outcomes, and publications. In fact, all activities of the Jean Monnet Chair are intended to be part of the centre?s activities.

4/2012: Drafting of a dossier and of the centre?s statues; drawing of the setting-up application document.
6/2012: Presenting the application document before the Department of Philosophy.
9/2012: Presenting the application document before the Board of the Faculty of Philosophy.
12/2012: Presenting the application document before the Governing Board of the University of Murcia.
10/2013: Setting-up of the Centre for European Studies.
